  2. I have a 1954 Buick Special convertible that sat in a orchard for 25 years. Unfortunately the whole bottom of the car is rusted out. Would it be possible to take a 2 door hard top and use the parts off of the convertible to make it into a convertible? I see the convertible frame has more body supports than the hard top has. What other frame or body parts would be different? Any advice would be appreciated.

  4. I am ready to order a set of bias ply tires for my '54 Special 2 dr. HT and want to be sure that I get the correct whitewall width and also the correct (as original) size tire. I guess I will need a crossover size from the original size? At present I have a good set of whitewall radials, but for judging want to go for a set of the bias tires (and tubes), if correct. Also any vendor recommendations after I get the correct size and whitewall width?   5. Hi all, new to the forum, but have had a 54 super convertible for awhile now. To help with the rebuild on the convertible I just picked up a 54 super 4 door that I am driving back to Texas from Oregon. Will be under the car fixing the leak from letting a local oil change place do an oil change and figured I would replace the front shocks while there.   10. been very busy with a few projects. Picked up a frame off restored star chief that a fellow bailed on. Pretty much a paint and assemble. After doing Buicks, this car is a breeze. Tri-5 chevy parts are readily available cheap. Motor was already rebuilt and I hooked it to a 200R4 (excellent choice, smaller than a 700R4) Next on the docket is a 56 convertible. picked up basket case for 3K, but the body needs very little. I couldn't make the 56 sedan work out from a cost standpoint but it has all the parts to finish the convertible. I would like to put a 54 front clip on it- you never know!

  13. I have a 1954 Special 46C and need to know the color code that was used on the frame to the convertible top. My top color was Khaki and the frame was a tan color. It was painted before and they didn't use the right color so I can't match the original. I have the color chart that was posted by Mr Earl but it doesn't show the frame color that I see. Can anyone help? Thanks!
  14. Can someone tell me where these go. There are two of one kind which have a metal plate with a rubber top. One is shown as one piece the other is shown with the two pieces separated. The other two bumpers are just diagonal rubber. I think they might be for convertible top. Thanks in advance Terry
  15. I want to replace my front windshield and finally found one without the blue shading at the top but the vendor wants $675 for it which includes the shipping. It has a slight green tint throughout. Does anyone know where to find one at a reasonable price? This for a 1954 Special convertible model 46C. Thanks for any help!

  19. Hi all, Time to make some more headway on the old girl, figure having a back seat would be a nice option Problem is both parts of the back seat have disappeared over the years. So, looking for suggestions on putting together a new rear seat. I'm assuming that finding a convertible seat in decent shape is highly unlikely, so I've pretty well resigned to taking one out of a hardtop and resizing it. I was presuming that a full size hardtop would be the way to go, but in chatting with Willie, it might be better to start with a rear seat from the smaller series to account for the cylinder wel

  21. I am restoring a 2 door special convertible and the black courtesy light switch located on the back seat left arm rest has deteriorated so bad I can not detect what I should replace it with. Does anyone know where I can get one and can someone take a picture of it? I found chrome ones but this is all black with a slider switch that has ribs. Thanks for any help!
  22. The top motor for the Roady runs, but the top doesn't move at all. I looked through the 54 Shop Manual and don't see anything on the convertible top. Is it covered in a separate manual? I'm familiar with the later GM setup with the horizontal pump, but that style leaves room for an air gap in the reservoir. With the vertical pump you could fill it all the way to the top, is that correct? Thanks Scott

  24. Thought I'd start a tech thread for talking about paint colors and paint for our beloved 54's. Thoughts and opinions on certain colors, color combinations, correct/incorrect colors and color combinations. Experiences with painting, mixing colors, etc etc. Maybe some polls for helping people decide and maybe even gain a statistical count of how many colors were produced in a year.   25. I had heard some where that the 54 Skylark was at least partially hand built. Is this true? Was the rear section of the Century cut off and the Skylark attached? Does anyone know of any photos of the building process? Thanks
