1954 Buick(s)

  1. Anybody know where I could find a male snap for the boot attachment on 1954 Skylark? Thanks
  2. I have a 1954 Buick Special convertible that sat in a orchard for 25 years. Unfortunately the whole bottom of the car is rusted out. Would it be possible to take a 2 door hard top and use the parts off of the convertible to make it into a convertible? I see the convertible frame has more body supports than the hard top has. What other frame or body parts would be different? Any advice would be appreciated.
  3. First time Buick owner. My wife has had a long fascination with old Buicks and I searched several years for an affordable Convertible. Found the 1954 Super Convertible locally from an elderly woman who's late husband was the original owner. In fact he met her while driving the car in Las Vegas on the Strip. He pulled over and started a conversation and a romance blossomed. They were married in Vegas and were together over 40 years until his passing about 7 years ago. She is thrilled that we now own the car and intend to restore it to its original glory! I bought the car as a surpri
  4. I am ready to order a set of bias ply tires for my '54 Special 2 dr. HT and want to be sure that I get the correct whitewall width and also the correct (as original) size tire. I guess I will need a crossover size from the original size? At present I have a good set of whitewall radials, but for judging want to go for a set of the bias tires (and tubes), if correct. Also any vendor recommendations after I get the correct size and whitewall width? I saw a spare tire that Steve from I Motors had in his '54 Skylark and it had what appeared to be an original label attached to the tire, except t
  5. Hi all, new to the forum, but have had a 54 super convertible for awhile now. To help with the rebuild on the convertible I just picked up a 54 super 4 door that I am driving back to Texas from Oregon. Will be under the car fixing the leak from letting a local oil change place do an oil change and figured I would replace the front shocks while there. I saw the old threads with the reference to two Monroe part numbers and a Napa part number (Monroe 2003 or 5002; also NAPA 5032B), but contacting the stores and talking to Monroe they said those weren't correct. I saw several online options,
  6. I was working on My '54 Century, and noticed that it did not have side view mirrors on the doors, or fenders. Were these optional equipment on the model 61 series??
  7. I've had quite a backlog of projects, Jeeps, Vw's and just finished a Pontiac. Well, I have 2 projects coming up. I picked up a 1956 Century convertible- very good body but missing all the interior parts, so my 56 hardtop has all the parts I needed. Then I have another Skylark. The Skylark is a big project, being a basket case so I'll probably hit the 56 first. I'll start a thread on that. Betty has a perfect cloth interior for the 56, the SKylark needs leather. I'll also post a thread on the new interior for Betty. I have some ideas for a custom interior for Betty, the cloth interior was nic
  8. Besides the '54 Buick Special I also own a 1964 Ford Mustang Convertible and a 1982 Chevrolet Corvette Collector Edition, all of them good examples of American car history!
  9. Pretty neat, compares 54 Buicks to other cars! Has anyone ever seen or have this literature piece? on ebay- (not mine) http://www.ebay.com/itm/1954-BUICK-MATCH-BOOK-/290993635380?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item43c0928034
  10. been very busy with a few projects. Picked up a frame off restored star chief that a fellow bailed on. Pretty much a paint and assemble. After doing Buicks, this car is a breeze. Tri-5 chevy parts are readily available cheap. Motor was already rebuilt and I hooked it to a 200R4 (excellent choice, smaller than a 700R4) Next on the docket is a 56 convertible. picked up basket case for 3K, but the body needs very little. I couldn't make the 56 sedan work out from a cost standpoint but it has all the parts to finish the convertible. I would like to put a 54 front clip on it- you never know!
  11. Hey guys, I think I just saw a new episode of Fast and Loud with our very own Steve Apter (aka imotors) selling a '67 Red Cadillac convertible to Gas Monkey Garage!!! If you look close, you can just spot that sweet blue 54 Skylark of his just inside the garage doors!!!
  12. Just bought this Buick. Now need to sell my 1969 Camaro Convertible. This is going to be a great resto!
  13. I have a 1954 Special 46C and need to know the color code that was used on the frame to the convertible top. My top color was Khaki and the frame was a tan color. It was painted before and they didn't use the right color so I can't match the original. I have the color chart that was posted by Mr Earl but it doesn't show the frame color that I see. Can anyone help? Thanks!
  14. Can someone tell me where these go. There are two of one kind which have a metal plate with a rubber top. One is shown as one piece the other is shown with the two pieces separated. The other two bumpers are just diagonal rubber. I think they might be for convertible top. Thanks in advance Terry
  15. I want to replace my front windshield and finally found one without the blue shading at the top but the vendor wants $675 for it which includes the shipping. It has a slight green tint throughout. Does anyone know where to find one at a reasonable price? This for a 1954 Special convertible model 46C. Thanks for any help!
  16. http://www.ebay.com/itm/181733402944? wow, red convertible, 3 sp manual and a leather interior. Don't know what the reserve is but this would be my pick!
  17. Interesting. Would like to know more about the condition of this one. http://buffalo.craigslist.org/cto/5009112485.html 1954 Buick Super Conv, very good condition, older paint still in good shape, original interior in good shape, new top, original motor. Souther rust free car, original floor, trunk ect, this car has never been rusty, has the Ultra Rare Skylark wire wheels, a true original survivor car, very hard to find in the condition, I'm in Ontario, About 2 hours from the boarder, can deliver if needed, $ 40,000
  18. and had ElDiablo's money Down your way Al, would look good next the the Almendron. pretty sure I remember when these exchanged hands several years ago. If I remember correctly he isn't making anything off the resale. Well worth the askin imo. http://miami.craigslist.org/pbc/atq/4999050999.html
  19. Hi all, Time to make some more headway on the old girl, figure having a back seat would be a nice option Problem is both parts of the back seat have disappeared over the years. So, looking for suggestions on putting together a new rear seat. I'm assuming that finding a convertible seat in decent shape is highly unlikely, so I've pretty well resigned to taking one out of a hardtop and resizing it. I was presuming that a full size hardtop would be the way to go, but in chatting with Willie, it might be better to start with a rear seat from the smaller series to account for the cylinder wel
  20. 54 Skylark....as well as other Buicks on the way to China... The Chinese love Buick. http://driving.ca/buick/auto-news/news/collector-classics-beijing-bound
  21. I am restoring a 2 door special convertible and the black courtesy light switch located on the back seat left arm rest has deteriorated so bad I can not detect what I should replace it with. Does anyone know where I can get one and can someone take a picture of it? I found chrome ones but this is all black with a slider switch that has ribs. Thanks for any help!
  22. The top motor for the Roady runs, but the top doesn't move at all. I looked through the 54 Shop Manual and don't see anything on the convertible top. Is it covered in a separate manual? I'm familiar with the later GM setup with the horizontal pump, but that style leaves room for an air gap in the reservoir. With the vertical pump you could fill it all the way to the top, is that correct? Thanks Scott
  23. Hey guys and girls, there is a new feature coming up on the forum: the 'Configurator'. With this addon you can configure your personal Buick! Lets get to the details and functions... Of course, you will be able to configure ALL 16 models of 1954 Buicks. You have two options to start with: First, you can compare the basic data of the 16 models. Or, you can start directly configuring your 1954 Buick. As you can see, the menu bar is on the left and will provide the navigation through the program. The configurator provides a little model introduction and basic facts. The available options
  24. Thought I'd start a tech thread for talking about paint colors and paint for our beloved 54's. Thoughts and opinions on certain colors, color combinations, correct/incorrect colors and color combinations. Experiences with painting, mixing colors, etc etc. Maybe some polls for helping people decide and maybe even gain a statistical count of how many colors were produced in a year. I'll kick it off with....... *
  25. I had heard some where that the 54 Skylark was at least partially hand built. Is this true? Was the rear section of the Century cut off and the Skylark attached? Does anyone know of any photos of the building process? Thanks
